You are supposed to work in groups of 4 to 5 learners.

Each member of the group is expected to be actively involved in the implementation of the project.

Use the locally available materials in the implementation of the project.

In case of any clarification, seek help from your subject teacher.

TASK

Your school wants to encourage birds to visit the compound. Your group is tasked with designing and making a simple bird feeder using recycled or locally available materials.

  1. As a group, design a simple bird feeder. Make a freehand pictorial sketch to show how the bird feeder will look like and indicate the main measurements or proportions. (6 marks)
  2. Choose and list the locally available or recycled materials you will use for making the bird feeder (e.g., plastic bottles, wood scraps, coconut shells, string, etc.). Explain why you chose these materials. (3 marks)
  3. Select appropriate tools from the following list or others available in your school workshop/home, needed for marking out, cutting, joining, and finishing the materials you chose.
  1. Tape measure
  2. Steel rule
  3. Marker pen/pencil
  4. Scissors
  5. Craft knife / Blade (use with caution and supervision)
  6. Drill / Awl (for making holes)
  7. Saw (if using wood)
  8. Glue gun / Strong adhesive
  9. String / Wire

List the tools selected. (3 marks)

Use the selected tools to mark out and cut the parts of the bird feeder from your chosen materials according to your design. (10 marks)

  1. Assemble the parts carefully to make the bird feeder according to your sketch. Ensure it is stable and can hold birdseed.

  1. Take videos/photos as you carry out each of the project tasks (designing, selecting materials/tools, marking out, cutting, and assembling).(2 marks)
  1. Create an electronic portfolio containing the videos/photos taken in question 6. Name the electronic portfolio with your Group name’. (6 marks)
  1. State two benefits of having bird feeders in the school compound. (2 marks)
